David M. Sargent, Jr. visited our school on Tuesday, May 24. We had a great time listening to him speak and meeting his friends, Tatum, Daphne, Emma and Spike.

Well, almost May. We have voted on our Arkansas Diamond Award books. At our school, Help Me, Mr. Mutt received the most votes with The Wolves are Back as runner-up. At the State Level, The Two Bobbies received the most votes with Help Me, Mr. Mutt as runner-up.
We are starting our Caldecott unit and are reading different Caldecott books.
With almost a month to go, we are looking forward to our Young Author's Conference during the week of May 23. David Sargent will be speaking to our school on May 24 and we will display all of our class and individual books.

Come On, Spring!

It's been an eventful winter with all the snow days, so glad Spring is coming soon. We are reading from the Arkansas Diamond Award list and getting ready to vote for our favorite in April. We also wrapped up the Book Fair and thanks to all the support, we made over $1000 for the Library and had 37 books purchased for classrooms by parents. Thanks to all the volunteers and customers! Couldn't have done it without you.

Thankful for our Books!

We are thankful for so many great books in our Library. I am thankful for those kids (almost all of our students) who take such good care of our books.

We are learning about Tall Tales in the Library this month. We've learned about Pecos Bill and Davy Crockett and how they could do things bigger and better than anyone else. We plan to write our own tall tale soon.

My classes of the month for October were Ms. Quinton, Ms. Chambliss, Ms. Kilgore. I chose my classes of the month based on how well they cleaned up the Library when it was time to leave. This month I'm looking for quiet voices during check-out time.

Fall In the Library!!

Welcome back to a great school year. Hard to believe it's already October. We've been very busy in the Library learning procedures, book care and a ton of Library Vocabulary. We've also read some really great books.

Thanks to all for supporting the Book Fair. We made over $1500 for the Library and the kids had a great time looking at all the neat books.

Young Author's Conference

Shane and Tammy Carter Bronson visited Prairie Grove Primary to share their books, Tiny Snail, Polliwog, and The Kaleidonotes and the Mixed-Up Orchestra, with us. They did a great job and we enjoyed their visit. Ms. Carney was Tammy Carter Bronson's first grade teacher and Ms. Bronson credits Ms. Carney for teaching her to read and eventually become an author.

BookFair

Thanks to everyone for supporting the Book Fair. We had the MOST successful Fair ever and raised over $1600 for the Library. We also were able to purchase a computer program called BookFlix from Scholastic with Bonus Points earned during the BookFair. Teachers will be able to use BookFlix in their classrooms and in small groups.

Turkey Time

It's almost Thansgiving and we've been busy reading and learning in the Library. We've read some really great books, including My Big Dog by Janet Stevens and Hubert's Hair-Raising Adventure by Bill Peet.
In Kindergarten, we're learning about genres and the OPAC (the computer that keeps up with our Library books). In First Grade, we're learning about features in the front of the book (like the title page and table of contents) and we're also learning about genres. In Second Grade, we're learning about features in the back of the book (index and glossary), text features (headings, sub-headings, bold, italics, and graphics) and genre characteristics.
Hope everyone has a chance to enjoy some great turkey and great reading over the break.

Flying Through October!

October is almost over and I feel like we're just getting started. There were so many things happening in October. The Book Fair ended on October 1st. We increased our sales from last year and earned over $1200 for the Library. Thanks to everyone for supporting the Book Fair, especially to the Volunteers. I couldn't have made it without you.
We have read some great books and learned library skills this month. Bob the Library Puppet has also visited each class. Kindergarten has learned about Authors, Illustrators, and Genres -- different kinds of books. First Grade has learned about the Title Page, Table of Contents and Dedication Page. Second Grade has learned about the Index, Glossary and Author Information Page.

Falling Into September

I can't believe we are half way through September. Time is flying in the Library. We have some very exciting things happening this month.
Kindergarten has been learning and practicing our Library procedures and book care. First and Second grades have been reviewing Library procedures and book care and reviewing the parts of the Library.
My favorite part of September is THE BOOK FAIR. The Book Fair is coming to the Library from Friday, Sept. 25 until Thursday, Oct. 1. The Book Fair is a great opportunity to purchase books, educational materials, junky stuff like cool pens and erasers, and toys. We will be having some exciting drawings for free books and posters, too. Everyone (Parents, too) can enter the drawings. The Book Fair is open before and after school and during Parent Teacher Conferences. Come by and see all the cool stuff.

Our first week in Library is going well. We're learning our rules and procedures for the Library and meeting me, Ms. Hassell, the Queen of the Library. Looking forward to our upcoming Book Fair in September.

Twas the Night Before School Starts

I can't wait to see all the smiling faces on Wednesday. Looking forward to a great year in the library. There will be lots of exciting things going on this fall. The Book Fair will be here during the week of Parent Teacher Conferences. Several teachers will be starting the Accelerated Reader Program. We have a lot of new books just waiting to be checked out and enjoyed.
